snow + ice = no power

we arrived back in seattle to snow!!

i was a little nervous that we wouldn't even make it back because the pilot came on and said they had temporarily closed the airport and we would wait over olympia until it reopened. fortunately it reopened quickly and we didn't have to wait at all, but came in with huge fluffy flakes of snow falling!
winter wonderland
it was supposed to snow through wednesday but monday we didn't really get anything and tuesday it was even clearer but freezing. tuesday night we had community group and there were no problems everyone made it just fine. but wednesday morning we woke up and woohoo! snow!! it snowed the entire day...kind of yucky wet snow but it snowed! you couldn't see across the lake at all and it just kept coming down!
a couple of inches worth!
we stayed home and enjoyed watching the world turn white. i worked on some crafting projects and talked to our new roomie jess who was at home that day because school was closed :).

pretty view across the lake
thursday morning the snow had stopped falling but shortly after getting up the lights started flickering and then the power went out. eric made a fire in the stove which kept most of the house pretty toasty (until i threw in some bad wood and then it got cold and i made eric come home from work to fix it). we went for a walk in the morning on the snow-covered trail, made a quick trip to target which was running on a generator and then watched as more snow started to fall.

icicles hanging off the gutters
it was freezing, which was what caused all the problems. trees covered in snow were frozen and branches would break causing all sorts of issues. because we didn't know how long the power would be out (they were saying 3-4 DAYS at that point) eric took all the stuff in the freezer over to a friend's who had power.  fortunately for us the power came back on at 3am and our sanity was restored :). we are so dependant on technology!! it's sad, really.
